It’s so easy to go out to the shops, buy and wrap a present for xmas and it’s done. What about giving the gift of intimacy in your marriage and family relationship?

There are many ways you can express your loving side to your loved ones. These are the gifts that keeps giving.

Find out how your spouse loves (check out Gary Chapman The 5 Love Languages on Amazon). Is it acts of service? Quality time? Or words of affirmation? Gifts or Physical touch? Recognise your own but speak to your partner in their particular love language.

Take the time to arrange a special date if your lover desires quality time. Make an hour dedicated to them. As they come home from work drop everything for 10 minutes of undivided attention and see them glow under your spotlight.

Speak the language of love with your words affirming your love and appreciation of your mate. Leave love notes in their lunchbox, voicemail or just call to say “What I love about you is…” Let your children see and hear this loving.

Know what gift they would really enjoy, make or buy this as an act of cherishing and valuing your partner. Be thoughtful and watch their preferences and this will really have their heart humming as they unwrap their favourite item, from their favourite person.

Tidy up and help out around with things around the house, at work to show your are prepared to act in service of your relationship. Do this with a smile and no expectation of reward, the truest gift.

Physical touch, hold your partner’s hand, give them a massage, better yet go on a course together. Hand out the hugs and see your partner glow. While sex is great aim for more non-sexual touch also.

Imagine how this will feel to you as the giver and to your partner and relationship as the receiver. Please in the holiday season give of yourself with a kindness and generosity of spirit.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
