I was inspired to write this article after a conversation with Karl my hairdresser, where he was telling me of all the goodies he had bought for his girlfriend and the thought he had put into it.
Some folk find getting the right gift is tough, so I want to help you with some handy hints that will apply to any time a present is needed – Christmas, birthday or wedding anniversary. Please click here to read on…
It’s a no brainer – the better you know your partner the easier your present sourcing will be. So get chatting to them now.
Do a bit of research – if you live with your partner, check out what size underwear they have in their drawer.
Notice any trends, say they are mainly all mediums or size 10. For extra cred notice the colour, brand, style and fabric that is preferred. For a Bra it will be like this size 12 and then the cup size a,b,c and beyond.
Get to know their shoe size, I am a size 37 and which is an Australian 7 and a Uk 4.5 so be careful here. Again see any patterns in design, which style and brands they prefer. Don’t buy stilettos for the Birkenstock gal!
Pop all this info into your iPhone or Android notes for when you are out shopping and let those wonderful shop assistants help you.
Are they a gym or fitness type of person? Find out if they like a Mizuno or Brooks shoe when they run – check their wardrobe.
There are many shops that cater to the athletes, yogis and surfers out there. Lululemon is a classic Yogi hang out. I personally like Dharma bums yoga gear for their funky crop pants.
Know your darling’s interests.
If they listen to classical FM they may like tickets to Madame Butterfly, Aida or another show at the Sydney Opera House or ticket to the Sydney Theatre Company.
Or they might like to go to a wrestling match, tennis game or horse racing. Plan a surprise outing.
Guys you might want to check out your girls Jewellery space. Listen to what she says and wears. See if she is a gold, silver or platinum girl. Does she like dangly earrings or studs.
Classics here are the gold necklace, tennis bracelet, pearl earring or necklace. Check for sizings – a gal with a large neck will need a longer chain that a lady with a slender neck. Again see what colours she wears a lot of and match it to that in order to avoid disappointment.
Girls notice your boy’s interests. For instance is he a gamer? Go and ask the folk at the gamer store for help on the latest and greatest. Know their musical preferences and get them the latest album.
Are they a reader? Know their favourite author and get the next book out in the shops or on kindle.
What are your partner’s hobbies?
Find out and get them something to enhance their enjoyment. That might be tyre polish, model aeroplanes, quilting, jigsaw puzzles or technology- an iPad mini for example.
The bathroom is another handy area for ideas. What make up or shaving gear do they use? Notice if they have SKII or Lancomme. Check out there perfume supply – please remember ALWAYS buy Eau de parfum.
When in doubt just ask. Listen up and take mental notes. You can do this subtly too. Family and friends can provide good insider knowledge.
Safe but boring is the voucher. So many to choose from – iTunes, shops or restaurants.
Use the clues. Guys see what shopping bags she comes back with often – so if there are load of Witchery or Cue totes you know she shops there.
If they have a pet get their little treasure something to enjoy on the day. Pet barn is stacked with goodies, ask the shop assistants for insider knowledge.
Some of my best presents have been on the shop workers recommendations.
Hope this help take the stress out of the christmas present shopping, good luck with it all and merry christmas 2014-2015.
